PARIS – The city of light is widely considered the most filmed location in the world, with the Montmartre neighborhood often the most featured. Home to La Basilique du Sacré-Cœur in the 18th arrondissement, steeped in rich culture and history with diverse settings and classic Parisian views, it is no wonder this area draws so much attention from tourists and filmmakers. From French film favorites like “Amélie” and classics including “Funny Face” with Audrey Hepburn to new fan favorites such as the Netflix series “Emily in Paris,” Montmartre has been a staple through it all.

Amelie: Abbesses train station

The Abbesses metro station in Paris as seen today. It was previously portrayed in the 2001 romantic comedy “Amélie.”

Amelie leads a blind man through the streets of Montmartre towards a metro station describing the sights, sounds and smells from her perspective along the way. This metro station brings fans of the movie and people just trying to travel the city.

From the bottom of the steps, tourists can stop to take in the view and shop for souvenirs. This view can also be spotted in the film “Amélie.”

Au Marche De La Butte was featured in “Amélie” as Maison Collignon underneath Amelie’s apartment. It is still a functioning grocery store with posters and postcards commemorating the film.

Emily in Paris

La Maison Rose is a highly frequented restaurant with a beautiful view of the city that was featured in Season One Episode Five of the Netflix series “Emily in Paris.” Just a short walk down Rue de L’Abreuvoir leads you to another scene featured in the same episode. Without a bed, the corner may be hard to recognize, but the view of La Basilique du Sacré-Cœur and La Maison Rose draws the attention from fans of the show.

Midnight in Paris

These stairs just to the side of La Basilique du Sacré-Cœur are featured in the films “John Wick: Chapter 4” and “Midnight in Paris,” which highlights just how versatile the scenes in Montmartre can be.

Funny Face

The alley near La Bonne Franquette was featured in the 1957 musical “Funny Face.” Many tourists walk through the alley to get through the busy heart of Montmartre while getting a glimpse of church on the hill.

An American in Paris

Although the stairs in the final scene of “American in Paris” were filmed on a studio backlot, this real life staircase below La Basilique du Sacré-Cœur in Paris on Rue Chappe was the source of inspiration.

French Kiss

The corner of Rue Paul Albert is featured in the film “French Kiss” during a fight between Kate, played by Meg Ryan, and Luc, played by Kevin Kline. Today it is a vibrant spot for cafes near the beautiful scenes of La Basilique du Sacré-Cœur.
