For many years, a National Park Service preservation program has tried to preserve landmarks and tourist destinations along Route 66.
However, federal funding for the program is scheduled to expire in two years unless Congress comes up with an alternate plan. Some of the tourist destinations in Arizona and elsewhere along the route could be affected.
