PHOENIX – Metro Phoenix will stay sunny and dry Wednesday and Thursday, but all eyes are on Friday, when we’re likely to record the first 100-degree day of 2019.
If we hit triple digits, it would be about a week later than last year, when our first 100 degree day was April 20. As temperatures climb as we head into summer, it’s a reminder of how fast heat can become dangerous, even deadly.
Remember, it’s never a good idea to leave pets or children in a closed vehicle, even if you’ll only be gone for a few minutes. On a 90 degree day, with your vehicle sitting in direct sunlight, it takes just 10 minutes for the interior to reach 110 degrees. After 30 minutes, the temperature will be 125 degrees, and after one hour, 133 degrees.
If we do hit triple digits, we won’t be there for long. High temperatures will fall back into the upper 80s by the middle of your next work week.
