To reduce the homeless pet population in the Valley, Altered Tails has partnered with Arizona’s Spay Neuter Hotline to fix outdoor cats for free.
The clinic’s Mesa location offered services Thursday and will continue Friday at its Phoenix site, 950 W. Hatcher Road, from 7 a.m. to 8 a.m.
“Those cats that are on the street need a little assistance from the community, by feeding them, and most importantly, getting them fixed,” Executive Director Ellen Clark said.
Friday is National Feral Cat Day, and Clark said the event is a proactive approach to help limit crowded animal shelters and euthanasia rates.
Clark said a good indicator to know if a cat has been fixed is to check if its left ear is clipped.
Linda Carnahan found a stray cat in her neighborhood and said she is happy the clinic is giving this opportunity to the community.
Carnahan said she feels sorry for the feline, and she is “going to try to do the decent thing and make it better for him.”
